Born Cassius Clay Jr., Muhammad Ali was an American boxer, philanthropist, and social activist, and is universally regarded as one of the greatest athletes of the 20th Century. An Olympic gold medalist and the first fighter to capture the heavyweight title three times, Ali won 56 times in his 21-year professional career. Ali’s outspokenness on issues of race, religion, and politics made him a controversial figure during his career. But it was his unforgivable blackness that helped him emerge as a transcendent and global influence for black liberation. Muhammad Ali had a love affair with the Continent of Africa starting in 1964. He discovered for himself that Africa is much more then what is portrayed by the western world. Ali went on to visit the several countries in Africa all the way up to 2005. Ali’s most famous visit to Africa was in 1974 where he fought and defeated George Foreman to reclaim the World Heavy Weight Title.
